|About the Book|
I was scheduled to hike the New Hance Trail this morning, but Mother Nature had other plans for me. So I returned home and figured I might as well finish this book before tomorrows attempt. In classic Muir style, he describes the Canyon with gushing superlatives and near biblical reverence (well, the Canyon is my proclaimed house of worship). Its a style that could easily be parodied, especially from the armchair. But when youre there, in the sanctuary, you realize how accurate his descriptions are. I appreciate his big-picture perspective, as I often lose the forest for the trees, bu-dum-bing, getting swallowed up in the minute beauty since the broad view overwhelms me. Its worth the quick read to peek into the mind of our parks patron saint.
